The Piece of Heaven

The Piece of Heaven art house project, led by Tampere Art Museum, livened up the urban neighborhood and built Tampere’s image as a city that values creativity. A total of 10 man-size art houses have been built; eight of these were located in the centre of the city , and two in the housing fair area in Vuores . Exhibition time was from 15th of June to 31th of August 2012.

The houses were designed by the 3rd year architecture students at Tampere University of Technology, and built by the students of the Pirkanmaa Vocational Institute in Lempäälä. The artists involved in the Piece of Heaven project were invited to participate. The selections were made by a workgroup consisting of the Tampere Art Museum’s Director Taina Myllyharju and Curator of Fine Arts Sirpa Joenniemi, producer Heini Orell, and the inventor of the idea, artist Tuomo Rosenlund. During the spring, the artists have been working at Pyynikin Trikoo, creating works of art for the interiors and exteriors of the houses. This workshop-type period was intended to offer the artists an opportunity for communication, working together, and inspiration. The art houses have been sold to companies and communities, offering them a new type of visibility in the urban environment. The goal of the Piece of Heaven project is to establish new forms of co-operation between the art museum, artists, schools, and companies.
